Mulberry House School, London NW2

The early years section of this prep school is housed in a converted Victorian house near West Hampstead.

The front entrance area is steeply banked up to the front door, being around 1.5m above pavement level. The school asked us to look at improving the access, appearance, and functionality of the space. We produced various options in consultation with Access Consultants, the Planners and the school.

The design integrated buggy and bike storage, a forecourt gathering place for drop-off / collection with a stepped terraced landscape to the building creating an interesting and playful access.

It was resolved that because the space was restricted a building regulations compliant ramp could not fit within the space so wheelchair access was to be provided by a folding wheelchair lift built into the new flank wall by the entrance.
