A NEW CHAPTER FOR A HISTORIC SPACE : LIBRARY AND COLLEGE READING ROOM IN NORTH LONDON

Leo Baeck College Reading Room Transformation Featured in Architects' Journal

We are delighted to share that our recent project for Leo Baeck College has been featured in the Architects’ Journal.

The scheme reimagines a former convent prayer space, transforming it into a calm, contemporary reading room that supports study, reflection, and community life. Working within a building layered with history, the design carefully balances preservation and adaptation — retaining the quiet, contemplative character of the original space while introducing a new academic function.

Key to the approach was working with light, volume, and materiality. Existing architectural features were respected and subtly enhanced, allowing the space to feel both rooted in its past and clearly oriented toward its new purpose. The intervention is intentionally restrained: a series of precise insertions that create warmth, improve usability, and support the needs of students and faculty.

The result is a space that feels both intimate and open — a place for focused reading, informal gathering, and quiet thought.

We’re proud to see the project recognised by the Architects’ Journal, and to have contributed to the continued evolution of such a meaningful institution.
