NORTH LONDON FRENCH BUSINESS SCHOOL HERITAGE REFURBISHMENT PROGRESSES: NEW TEACHING & STUDENT SPACES

Works are progressing well on our latest heritage refurbishment project in North London, where Square Feet Architects is transforming underused areas within a historic building to create new teaching rooms, collaborative student spaces, and upgraded facilities for a leading French business school.

Now well underway on site, the project is progressing smoothly and remains on the home straight for completion after the summer. As construction advances, the character of the new spaces is beginning to emerge, revealing the balance between contemporary interventions and the retained historic fabric of the building.

The project focuses on the careful adaptation and reuse of an existing heritage structure, demonstrating how older buildings can be sensitively reimagined to support modern educational environments while retaining their original character and architectural identity. By working within the existing fabric of the building, the design preserves the richness, texture, and patina that only time can create — qualities impossible to replicate in entirely new construction.

We believe that the reuse of existing buildings is one of the most meaningful and sustainable approaches in architecture today. Historic structures carry embedded stories, craftsmanship, and material depth that give educational spaces a unique atmosphere and sense of permanence. Rather than erasing the past, our approach allows new interventions to sit alongside original details, creating environments that feel both contemporary and deeply rooted in their history.

The new spaces have been designed to maximise natural light, improve connectivity across the building, and provide flexible areas that support modern patterns of teaching, learning, and student interaction. Existing roof voids and previously underutilised areas are being carefully opened up and reconfigured to create bright, functional spaces while respecting the building’s heritage significance.

As the project continues on site, we are excited to see the transformation taking shape and look forward to delivering a series of inspiring new educational spaces that celebrate both innovation and architectural continuity.
