FAITH IN THE CITY
CHAPLAINCY CENTRE FOR THE CITY OF LONDON
This multi-faith space in London is envisioned as a sanctuary for unity, reflection, and shared human experience. Rooted in universal motifs—light, natural materials, and ambient serenity—it is designed to transcend specific religious iconography and instead embody a spiritual openness that welcomes all. Light filters gently through the architecture, symbolizing clarity, hope, and transcendence, while wood, stone, and water evoke a grounding connection to the earth and to one another. The space includes areas for shared prayer, quiet contemplation, learning, and interfaith dialogue—fostering mutual respect, understanding, and a sense of common spirituality. It is not a place of doctrine but of presence; an inclusive vessel for inner peace and collective reverence.
Collaboration between Square Feet Architects and Matthew Lloyd Architects, working with co-convenors Rabbi Alex Goldberg, Sughra Ahmed and Michael Wakelin.
